I just finished listening to the audiobook version of Black Girl Unlimited by Echo Brown (read by the author). I am in awe. It is a beautifully written semi-memoir with a vein of magic realism throughout. The author shares her life, her perspective, and a her history as a black girl in America. It required me to really hear her story, to learn, and challenge my own perspective as I seek to learn and understand as a white ally. Thank you Echo Brown for your voice, for your courage, and for the absolute beauty of this light you have shared.
While I am currently in the “everyone-should-read-this” phase, I do think a parental pre-read might be a good idea (for those of you in my age group–think Forever by Judy Blume). While I haven’t read the print version, I can highly recommend the audiobook (I borrowed it from the library).
THANK YOU FOR THE RECOMMENDATION! I’M ON IT. TAKE CARE.
